This program focuses on increasing domestic oil production in order to reduce the nation’s dependence on imported oil. The Government’s role has been to facilitate the development of critical technologies where the risk of failure was high by industry standards.  The Department of Energy’s Research and Development objectives are to stimulate, facilitate, and coordinate the development and rapid transfer of resulting technology to commercial use for the purpose of increasing domestic oil production.
